Masquerade
By Relyn Myrthil

Dressed in sequins, taffeta, lace
Each single guest steps with grace
No one stumbles
No one grumbles

Purple, emerald, gold, and red
All the colors are purebred
Every costume is inspected
Everyone already perfected

One appears all in black
With a boom and fire crack
The air is thick and tense
But not all have common sense

One young child did stray too far
In a gown much like a golden star
She lifted his mask to reveal
A stern jaw and eyes a blue teal

All through the night, they danced and spoke
One might have thought that it was a just a joke
But also, it was not
And some were distraught
It is nothing but a masquerade
With a deathly serenade
Where everyone prances
Where everyone dances

The two kindred dreamers
Danced as one like streamers
Her doe brown eyes
His secret now lies

For as lovers they understood
Secrets do not build well, like wood
And she whispered softly, “Remember this, my love
You must let your trust soar, like a dove”

Learn her virtue and understand her wisdom
With such knowledge they ruled their kingdom
In peace, justice, and a moral code
And history thanks them for bearing this load

Here is a Mini Movie I made (Link above) about my recent trip to NYC with my sisters choir where they performed in Carnegie Hall (VERY exciting). Please check out the choir, The Children’s Voice Chorus, run by Mrs. Jamie Perez Sutta. Fantastic organization. Also, subscribe to my channel; more videos are sure to pop up!

A Dazed Adventure

The bare room was hot and dull
The heat was hammering against my skull
I searched the room for something to do
But only found a book and two sticks of glue

The book seemed old, dusty, and worn
I looked upon it with ignorant scorn
I threw the book onto the floor
And that was when I heard it roar

The book trembled and growled at me
This sort of thing doesn’t happen in Washington, D.C.
I felt a sudden push from behind
And face first; I fell into its bind

Golden bush coated with periwinkle mist
Nymphs and ogres really do exist
They danced and sang around their fire
Like a strange and mismatched choir

I sat and watched them for a while
One came to me with a green-blue vial
“Drink this and you can join us”
And I did just that without a fuss

My features were tall and lean
My skin was scaly and green
Hand in hand we danced a jig
Then we ate from a giant fig

We sat and watched the pink sunset
Then said our goodbyes with regret
The time had come for me to leave
My adventure was turning over a new green leaf

I awoke with a start
To the sounds of Mozart
My mother’s phone was ringing
As she came in sing sing singing

My skin was smooth and tan
My features were small bland
But in my fist
I saw what I had missed

A small green-blue vial
Which made my lips twitch into a smile
My mother announced that it is time to go
We must not be late for the show

My adventure was sadly over
But I have something from it left over
I will always remember the dance I shared
With those nymphs and ogres who chose to care
